Gloss Mountain State Park
Gloss Mountain State Park in Oklahoma, sometimes referred to as the "Glass Mountains," of the State are found in North Western Oklahoma. It's approximately a 2 hour drive outside of Oklahoma City. The mountainous and hilly terrain are filled with little chunks and shards of what looks like glass, but instead are Selenite particles. These shiny little pieces that litter the floors are truly worth a visit to see.
Some brief notes ahead of time: there are no on-site bathrooms, or restaurants on site. Another great piece of advice is to keep a watchful eye out as rattlesnakes are commonly found in and around the areas of Gloss Mountain. Finally, please remember that it is illegal to pick up these Selenite rocks and take them home with you.
However, if you do plan on making the trip, it's the perfect opportunity to stop in and take a hike through the nearby Cathedral Mountain, or Lone Peak Mountain areas.
As an outdoor lover and a nature enthusiast, I would love to take another trip out to the Gloss Mountain area just to hike these two mountains and even stop in to the nearby Newton Ranch for a trail ride. These areas do have better accommodations such as bathrooms, and pavilions for the visit.
No matter what, I highly recommend a pair of binoculars, a decent pair of hiking boots and your camera.
