Turner Falls State Park

Turner Falls State Park is located near Davis, Oklahoma. It features Oklahoma's tallest waterfall which cascades 77 feet down the side of the Arbuckle Mountains. The Arbuckle Mountains as estimated by geologists are some of the oldest mountains on Earth! At one time they were taller than The Rocky Mountains, which are the current tallest mountain range in the United States. Geologists have described Turner Falls as being a window into the past. The ancient mountains provide a beautiful place to hike, take photos, and just enjoy a picnic with your family, friends, or loved ones.

As a photographer, one of my favorite things about Turner Falls is that the water is always cold, and it's usually clear. The only time it's not clear is if there's been a recent flood, or a substantial amount of rainfall run off. Another thing that always drags me to Turner Falls is the way that it allows me to learn and grow as a photographer. The unique location of Turner Falls provides me an opportunity to learn more about light and shadows. I have been at Turner Falls before on a cloudless day and still managed to find areas where there's shadows due to the mountain backdrop. If you haven't been to Turner Falls as a photographer, I highly recommend it. Especially during the spring and autumn.
